Vietnam Police Prosecute 698 Environment, Food Safety Violators in 2023

The police across Vietnam launched legal proceedings against 606 cases and 698 suspects for violations related to environment, natural resources, and food safety in 2023, according to data released at a summary conference of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS)’s Environmental Crime Prevention and Fighting Police Department in Hanoi on January 2.

The prosecution rate last year increased by 2.54% y/y.

Of the total, the department directly started the legal proceedings against nine criminal cases, beating the ministry-assigned target by 200%.

On the same day, the MPS’ Department for Cybersecurity and Prevention of High-Tech Crime told its summary conference that its forces joined investigation agencies of all levels in initiating the legal proceedings against 46 cases and more than 230 suspects in 2023. The suspects were busted in transnational criminal groups of gambling, online scam, loan sharking, and personal data trade, among others.
