Vietnamese Prime Minster Nguyen Tan Dung has ratified the second phase of a rural infrastructure project funded by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) to boost development in the central province of Quang Nam. The ministries of Finance; Planning and Investment are responsible for instructing the People’s Committee to deploy the project in Q3, 2012. The project falls within the framework of a government strategy to improve rural infrastructure in order to boost agricultural production, raise household incomes, reduce living costs and enhance access to markets, jobs and other social services. Under the project, works such as the construction of rural roads, bridges and primary schools, as well as the establishment of irrigation schemes and wells to help raise agricultural productivity will be carried out.
