Vietnam Plans to Raise Tuition Fees from 2015

Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training said in a draft decree on educational service fees that it would raise tuition fees at public tertiary schools from 2015. This is in a three-year plan on raising school fees until 2018. Tuition fees make up a big burden for students and their families in the country with a per capita income of around $1,500. Vietnam currently has 400,000 students of vocational schools and nearly 2.2 million college and university students. The country is criticized for poor education quality as up to 26.2% of university graduates are jobless and 61% of graduates need to be retained at work. (thoibaokinhdoanh.vn Oct 28)
