Vietnam Plans New Model University in Hanoi

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has signed a loan agreement with the Vietnamese government to develop a new model University of Science and Technology in Hanoi at a cost of $190 million. The new model university will be a state-of-the-art institute that will contribute to providing higher skills to medium-income students and help move the country towards more hi-tech industrialization. The project will establish a new model university focused on achieving international standards of teaching and research with stronger university-industry links. This new university will also demonstrate a new policy framework to serve as a basis for reforms that would be extended to other higher educational institutions. Construction of the university is scheduled to begin in 2012 and completed by 2017. Vietnam hopes to place the status of this new model university among the world’s top 200 universities by 2020-2035.
