Vietnam Needs $30B for Green Growth Strategies by 2020

Vietnam needs approximately $30 billion to implement green growth strategies by 2020, the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) said. Up to 70% of the total figure will come from non-state sector, Pham Hoang Mai, head of MPI’s Department of Science, Education, Natural Resources and Environment, said at a meeting on Jan 8. The money would enable Vietnamese agencies to carry out constitutional changes to attract more investment in green growth projects. The strategies will help Vietnam to cope with climate change as the Southeast Asian country is one of five countries suffer most from climate change. Since 2009, the country has borrowed $1 billion from foreign governments and organizations to serve its climate change response. (Dau Tu – Investment Jan 12 p2, Toquoc.gov.vn Jan 9)
