Vietnam Minister Joins UN High-Level Conference on Ending AIDS
Vietnamese Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan attended the United Nations High-Level Conference on Ending AIDS in New York on September 20 (local time) on the sidelines of the high-level discussion of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 78), local media reported.
Addressing the event, Minister Lan thanked international organizations such as the Joint United Nations Program on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS), the World Health Organization (WHO), the United States President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), and the Global Fund for having supported Vietnam in fighting HIV/AIDS.
She said that Vietnam now has 250,000 HIV infections and without support from international organizations and strong determination from Vietnam’s political system, the figure would increase 1.2 million HIV cases and 320,000 AIDS deaths.
Also at the event, Minister Lan had bilateral meetings with foreign health officials, including Ms. Loyce Pace, assistant secretary in the Office of Global Affairs for the U.S. Department of Health, to share experiences in healthcare.
