Vietnam Losses $71.8M on Natural Disasters in H1, up by 2.5 Times y/y
Vietnam recorded an economic loss of more than VND1.72 trillion ($71.8 million) due to natural disasters in the first half (H1) of this year, increasing by 2.5 times y/y, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).
In H1, natural disasters caused 68 deaths/missings and injured 56 people, while damaging 36,800 hectares of paddy and veggies; 22,900 poultry and cattle; and 28,100 houses, the GSO said.
In terms of fires and explosions, Vietnam logged 2,231 cases that claimed the lives of 55 people and injured 52 others in H1, causing an economic loss of VND127.9 billion, down 36.5% y/y.
Besides, relevant agencies detected 12,650 environmental violations, of which they handled 11,418 cases, with total fines of VND156.5 billion, up 5.8% y/y.
