Vietnam Losses $140.6M on Natural Disasters in Jan-Aug, up by 1.5 Times y/y
Vietnam recorded an economic loss of more than VND3.37 trillion ($140.6 million) due to natural disasters in the first eight months of this year, increasing by 1.5 times y/y, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Natural disasters caused 147 deaths/missing and injured 104 people while damaging 115,300 hectares of paddy and veggies; 259,300 poultry and cattle; and 32,900 houses, the GSO said.
In January-August, Vietnam logged 2,857 cases of fires and explosions, which claimed the lives of 80 people and injured 81 others, causing an economic loss of VND149.7 billion, down 56.6% y/y.
Besides, relevant agencies detected 15,812 environmental violations and handled 14,515 of them, with total fines of VND204.3 billion, up 3% y/y.
