Vietnam to Invest in Semiconductor Labs at 18 Universities by 2030

Vietnam will invest in semiconductor laboratories at 18 universities by 2030 to enhance the country’s capacity in training a skilled workforce for the semiconductor industry, state media reported.

The move is part of the government’s “Semiconductor Industry Human Resources Development Program,” with a long-term vision until 2050, signed on September 21.

The universities, including the University of Natural Sciences (Hanoi National University), the University of Information Technology (Ho Chi Minh City National University), Danang University, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology, among others, will receive funding for equipment and software to establish and modernize semiconductor labs.

Additionally, 1,300 lecturers from research institutes, universities, and enterprises will receive advanced training in semiconductor technologies. Vietnam targets to enable these universities to produce a highly skilled workforce by 2050, supporting the development of the semiconductor industry.

Beyond this, the government will invest in four shared semiconductor labs at national universities in Hanoi City and HCMC, the National Innovation Center, and Danang City to foster broader research and development capabilities in the sector.

By 2030, Vietnam aims to train at least 50,000 professionals with university-level education or higher.
