Vietnam Hungry Households Fall by 27.6% This Year: GSO
Vietnam has reported 450,300 hungry families this year, with 1.91 million starving people, down 27.6% and 26.9% on year, respectively, said the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO).Most of them are living in northern mountainous provinces, central coastal and central highlands areas that are frequently hit by natural calamities.To cope with the situation, the government and local authorities have provided more than 22,600 tons of food and VND24.4 billion ($1.16 million) for famine relief.The percentage of poor households nationwide this year is estimated at between 11.3%-11.5%, down 1.1%-1.3% against last year.
