Vietnam HCMC to Complete Site Clearance for ADB-, KfW-funded Railway in Jun

Authorities of Vietnam’s southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City are expected to complete site clearance for Ben Thanh-Tham Luong metro line, the second of its kind in the city, in June, according to the Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR).

All infrastructure works on the route will be relocated in July and the clean land will be handed over to the main contractors in 2025.

HCMC plans to organize bidding for the general consulting package in October and start construction in 2025.

The railway will require a cost of VND47.89 trillion ($2 billion) with the majority from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), German Development Bank (KfW), and the European Investment Bank (EIB).

The metro route has a total length of 11.2 kilometers, passing through Districts 1, 3, 10, 12, Tan Binh, and Tan Phu. It is one of eight planned in the city with a combined length of 220 kilometers and at a cost of nearly $25 billion.

The city has agreed to extend the implementation schedule of the metro line by 2032, including two years for defect repair and warranty.
