Vietnam Has Limited Number of Clinical Psychologists, Psychotherapists
Vietnam is estimated to have 14 million people with mental disorders but only 143 clinical psychologists and psychotherapists, local media cited a conference on building a project to strengthen the capacity of the mental health care system for the 2023-2030 period as reporting.
At the event in Hanoi on August 3, experts pointed out that clinical psychology services are not covered by health insurance. Therefore, the 143 clinical psychologists and psychotherapists are considered only technicians.
Mental rehabilitation services are also very limited, they added, noting that there are no mental health services designated for people impacted by natural disasters, such as floods and droughts, and epidemics such as COVID-19.
The National Mental Hospital 1 said that up to 90% of people with mental disorders have not received formal services in Vietnam yet. (Suc Khoe Doi Song)
