Vietnam Has 9K Congenital Immunodeficiency Patients, But 5% Get Treatment
As many as 9,000 people in Vietnam are estimated to have been infected with congenital immunodeficiency, but only 450 of them, or 5% of the total number have so far been diagnosed and received treatment, local media reported.
Experts announced these figures at the fourth Primary Immunodeficiency Day recently organized by Vietnam National Children’s Hospital and Vietnam Patient Organization for Primary Immunodeficiencies.
Pediatric experts said that Vietnam has managed to access most of the most advanced techniques for congenital immunodeficiency. However, the current biggest challenges are that the disease has yet to be widely known, and health insurance has yet to cover all drug costs for the illness.
