Vietnam Hanoi to Spend VND94.5B on Building Houses for Poor People
Authorities of Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi Oct 25 decided to spend VND94.5 billion ($4.5 million) to help build and repair houses for 3,780 local poor families. Accordingly, each household will receive VND20 million from the city’s budget and VND5 million from the fund for the poor. They can also get a loan of maximum VND8 million from the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies for the house construction.
The city has asked other agencies to mobilize all resources in building the houses this year in order to complete the plan by the year-end. During 2009-2010 period, Hanoi helped build and repair 7,467 houses for the poor with VND117.5 billion sourced from the municipal budget. The city earlier planned to offer preferential credit loans to 75,000 poor households, aiming to help 24,200 poor households in 20 communes escape poverty under its Plan on Poverty Reduction Program.
