Vietnam Hanoi to Spend VND12T on School Upgrade by 2015
Authorities of Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi have announced that they will spend VND10 trillion-VND12 trillion on upgrading schools in the 2011-2015 period in an effort to improve the training quality.
As many as 29 districts and towns will benefit from the program, the Thoi Bao Kinh Te newspaper reported on Nov 25. In 2009-2010, the capital city poured VND2.5 billion into replacement of 5,523 makeshift classrooms and building 1,009 more classrooms. To date, Hanoi has around 2,500 schools of all grades with 25.7% meeting national standards. The city aims to build state-run schools in 46 remaining awards which are now in lack of such facilities by 2015. Local authorities are expected to issue new policies to encourage enterprises and investors who are interested in the sector with an aim to build an additional 1,600 schools from now to 2030 to satisfy the education demand. The population of Hanoi is expected to be 7.4 million people in 2020 and 9.5 million people in 2030. The minimum school area per each student is 8m2 in inner city and 15m2 in the suburbs. The city aims to raise the rate of standardized schools to 50% in 2011-2012 academic year. (Thoi Bao Kinh Te – Economic Times Nov 25 p3)
