Vietnam Hanoi Plans 16 New Schools with $370.8M Investment by 2025
The Department of Education and Training of Hanoi City has planned to build 16 new schools by 2025 with a total investment of VND8.9 trillion ($370.8 million) to ease overcrowding in public schools.
The initiative aims to increase the proportion of private schools to 21% and the percentage of students attending private institutions to 14%-16% by 2025. Additionally, 123 high schools will be renovated or repaired to improve facilities and accommodate the growing student population.
The department found that overcrowding in public schools has strained the educational system, with most schools exceeding the Ministry of Education and Training’s class size limit of 35 students. This has affected education quality and intensified competition, especially for high school placements.
By the end of the 2023-2024 academic year, Hanoi had more than 25% of high school students enrolled in private institutions. The city has recorded around 2.3 million students in the 2024-2025 school year.
