Vietnam Hailed in Coping with Climate Change
Vietnam has been applauded by the international community for the timely submission of its biennial update report to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). The timely completion of the report demonstrates the Vietnam government’s commitment to responsibly deal with global climate change and play an active leadership role in giving effect to the global convention. Pham Van Tan, deputy director of the Department of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) says the country is one of the first three to complete its report. The upcoming year, 2015, will be a decisive year for implementing the global agreement on climate change Tan says adding the MoNRE has been assigned the task of coordinating with relevant ministries and agencies by the Prime Minister. The goal is to be one of the first countries in the world to finalize the draft of a plan to reduce greenhouse emissions and adapt to climate change by the end of May and timely submit it to the Secretary of the UNFCCC.
