Vietnam Govt Ratifies WB-funded Road Management Project

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the portfolio of Vietnam Road Asset Management Program (VRAMP) funded by the World Bank (WB), the government said on its website. The government chief assigned the Ministry of Transport to finalize the necessary documents to implement the project. The VRAMP will invest in upgrading four main highways, 11 bridges and floodproofing the portion of the national highway that runs from Ha Tinh province to Binh Thuan province. Since 1993, the WB has provided nearly $14 billion in credit, loans and grants to help Vietnam sustain growth and fight poverty. As Vietnam’s biggest multilateral donor, WB pledged $2 billion in ODA for Vietnam in 2012. WB recently has pledged to fund $4.2 billion to help Vietnam implement a new Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) in the 2012-2016 period. (http://news.gov.vn Aug 29, Thoi Bao Ngan Hang Aug 30 p2)
