Vietnam Govt to Raise Bank Loans for Poor Students from Aug 1

Vietnam will raise learning-purposed loans to VND1 million from the current level of VND900,000 from August 1, 2011, according to Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s recent decision. The government chief has assigned the Ministry of Finance to coordinate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and other agencies to provide secure funds to meet adjustments. More than two million students of poor households nationwide have benefited from the Government’s learning-purposed financial assistance program since it was launched three years ago. The program indicates the government’s strong effort to ensure educational opportunities for all, particularly the poor.
