Vietnam Gov’t OKs ADB-funded $84M Low Carbon Agri Project

Vietnam’s government has approved a project with an investment of $84 million, with $74 million to be funded by the Asia Development Bank (ADB), which aims to reduce pollution generated by agricultural wastes, especially from livestock. The Low Carbon Agricultural Support Project (LCASP) project will focus on treatment of solid waste in livestock production through the expanded use of biogas and bio-slurry processing technologies. It will be implemented in ten northern provinces Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, Bac Kan, Bac Giang, Son La, Lai Chau and Dien Bien. One of the project’s major tasks is to build 36,000 small-size biogas plants for ethnic minority people in the provinces. It will also assist 50 commercial livestock farms in the region to deal with solid animal waste. (Nhan Dan – The People Oct 1 p2)
