Vietnam Gov’t Makes Plan to Support 23 Poor Districts

The Government o­n December 26 decided to apply specific policies for 23 poor districts nationwide in order to help them reduce poverty quickly and sustainably.Surveys and statistics show that these districts are mainly the residence of ethnic minority groups. However, the infrastructure, especially roads from the district centers to communes and hamlets, irrigation works, electric network, schools and clinics, is poor and out of date.The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affair estimated that the total expenditure to support these 23 districts within five years from 2013-2017 will reach around 2,400 billion VND.The Government will upgrade and build boarding schools for ethnic minority students, vocational schools, irrigational works and communication routes in these districts.In communes of these districts, the Government will also invest in fundamental infrastructure including schools, inter-communal roads, roads to concentrated economic zones, irrigational works, electricity projects and water supply plants.
