Vietnam Fund Lends VND547B to Environmental Projects by End-2010
The Vietnam Environment Protection Fund (VEPF) had lent more than VND547 billion ($26.17 million) to 111 environmental protection projects by end-2010, the Communist Party of Vietnam said on its website Mar 25. The information was released at a recent meeting in Hanoi on promoting investment cooperation between the VEPF and foreign and domestic investors in environmental protection projects.
The VEPF sold Certified Emission Reductions (CERs) worth nearly VND31 billion to clean development mechanism (CDM) projects as well as provided nearly VND600 million in aid to propaganda activities on CDM and climate change during the period. Up to now, the VEPF has approved 135 CDM projects and two related action programs as well as confirmed 27 CDM ideas. The CDM Executive Board has to date approved only 24 CDM projects in Vietnam since joining Kyoto Protocol in 2002, a very modest figure against the total number of 2,211 projects in 40 countries worldwide.
