Vietnam Firm Starts Japan-funded Wastewater Treatment Project in South
Binh Duong Water Supply, Sewerage, and Environment Company Mar 29 started building a wastewater collection system and a domestic wastewater treatment plant with a total investment of VND2 trillion ($95.69 million) in Vietnam’s southern province of Binh Duong, using fund from the Japanese government. Of the sum, VND1.58 trillion came from the Japan’s official development assistance (ODA) loan, the state-run Vietnam News Agency said late Mar 29. Located in Thu Dau Mot town, the treatment facility is capable of treating over 17,000 cu.m of wastewater per day for 50,000 local residents in the town and some neighboring localities in a move to reduce environmental pollution. Once operational in 2013, the treatment facilities are expected to become the first of its kind in the province. Binh Duong has developed lots of daily wastewater treatment and drainage projects so far, including the South Binh Duong water environment improvement project; the project of dredging and upgrading main canals and ditches discharging water into the Saigon River.
