Vietnam Firm Operates $39.28M Clean Water Supply System in HCM City
The Sai Gon Water Supply Co (Sawaco) April 24 put into operation a fresh water supply system worth over VND821 billion ($39.28 million) in Can Gio district in Vietnam’s southern metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City after over one-year construction. The facility includes nearly 42 kilometers of 300 to 800 millimeter pipelines and three pumping stations with a total daily capacity of between 21,500 cu.m and 39,000 cu.m of water. The system with a daily capacity of 6,000 cu.m of water will benefit 18,000 local households in Binh Khanh, Can Thanh and Long Hoa communes. Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said the water pipeline system marked a milestone in the development of Can Gio district, which will help improve living conditions of local residents, facilitate economic and cultural development, especially the local tourism industry. Ho Chi Minh City is estimated to need $4 billion for tens of urban clean water supply and drainage projects by 2025. The metropolis is expected to provide 2.4 million cu.m of water for local residents per day and build 1,393 km of clean water pipelines by the next five years.
