Vietnam Education Faces Lack of 113K Teachers for New School Year: MoET
As of April, Vietnam’s education system faced a shortage of 113,491 teachers for the 2024-2025 academic year, the Ministry of Education and Training announced in its report at a conference in Hanoi on August 19.
The ministry noted that the most significant teacher shortages are in subjects like English, Information Technology, Music, and Art. It also mentioned the slow efforts to address this issue that affects the implementation of the 2018 General Education Program.
The MoET’s report also showed a decrease in the number of primary and secondary schools, attributed to administrative boundary mergers. In contrast, the number of high schools has increased due to population growth in major cities.
Vietnam recorded 18.5 million students in the 2023-2024 academic year, with a decrease of over 300,000 students compared to the previous school year.
At the conference, delegates highlighted the low salaries for teachers and called for the swift passage of the Teachers’ Law to improve teacher-related policies.
