Vietnam Disburses $8.3M for Education Projects in Jan-April: GSO

Vietnam disbursed an estimated amount of VND173 billion ($8.3 million) worth of state funds for education and training projects in the first four months of 2013, meeting 24.7% of the whole-year target, according to the government’s General Statistics Office (GSO). The figure represented a fall of 25.8% from a year earlier, the GSO added. In April, the country disbursed VND51 billion worth of state funds for these projects, compared to VND50 billion in March, the GSO said. Economists have recently raised warning on the low disbursement of projects in the education and training sector, calling on the government to work out measures to attract more investments in the sector. By end-March 2013, 61 out of 63 cities and provinces in Vietnam have completed the universalization of primary education while that of junior secondary education has been finished nationwide.
