Vietnam Continues $123M Japan-funded Protective Forest Project

Authorities in Vietnam’s central province of Thua Thien-Hue have received $5.55 million from the government of Japan’s official development assistance (ODA) to continue the $123-million project on protective forest protection in the central region between 2012-2021. The project, which marks $99.7 million financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Vietnam’s reciprocal capital, will cover 11 provinces including Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Ngai, Binh ?inh, Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan. With eight components including consultancy services, bomb and mine clearance, developing livelihood and forest fire control, the project includes planting 17,946 hectares of protective forest and protecting 34,437 hectares of forest.
