Vietnam Central Province Oks to Build $6.73M Waste Treatment Plant

Authorities of Vietnam’s central province of Quang Ngai have approved a project to build a waste treatment plant in the island district of Ly Son with a total investment of VND104 billion ($6.73 million). The facility is capable of treating around 50 tons of waste discharged from local households per day, the Thanh Nien newspaper reported, giving no more detail about the project. In fact, most of waste is released into the environment per day daily without proper treatment, posing a great threat to the environment and local people’s health. Vietnam will spend VND44 trillion on treating solid waste in urban areas until 2015, the Ministry of Construction said. (Thanh Nien – Young People Sept 27 p2)
