Vietnam Central Highlands Province Reports 4 Japanese Encephalitis Cases

Four cases of Japanese encephalitis have recently been reported in Vietnam’s Central Highlands province of Kon Tum, according to the local health officials. The provincial health department said four patients were residing in the districts of Sa Thay, Tu Mo Rong, Dak Ha and Dak Glei each. The cause, according to health officials, was poor environmental hygiene and local authorities’ neglect of the vaccination program. The province’s Preventive Health Centre was coordinating with medical centers of the four districts to implement disease-prevention measures. The center urged locals to get vaccinated to limit the spread of the disease. The department said it was alarmed to see cases of Japanese encephalitis since there were no cases in 2015 in the province. (tuoitre.vn Oct 17)
