Vietnam to Build Five Large Hospitals to Ease Severe Overload

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a plan to build five large-scale hospitals in the capital city of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to ease the severe overload. Under the plan, the second facilities of Hanoi-based Bach Mai Hospital and Vietnam-Germany Hospital will be built in the northern province of Ha Nam, while two pediatrics and oncology hospitals will take shape in Ho Chi Minh City with 1,000 beds each. Besides, the Orthopedic Trauma Hospital with 500 beds will be built in Ho Chi Minh City. The construction of the clinics would be completed in 2016. It is reported that there are only 20.5 sickbeds for every 10,000 local residents in Vietnam, versus the minimum level of 33/10,000 required by the World Health Organization.
