Vietnam to Borrow $230M from ADB for Water Supply Project in Hanoi
Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a water supply project in the 2014-2019 period borrowing $230 million from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The project costing a total of $254 million would focus on building a system using water from Da river to supply for residents in Hanoi’s outlying districts. The project is aimed to develop a water supply system along Lang – Hoa Lac expressway after this water system broke several times over the past years, directly impacting thousands lives. This water supply system along Lang – Hoa Lac expressway broke for six times between 2012 and April 2014, affecting 70,000 local residents each time. The reasons are attributed to substandard pipeline and weak geology. (Thoi Bao Kinh Te Viet Nam – Vietnam Economic Times April 28 p3, Baodatviet.vn April 27)
