Vietnam, Australia Enhance Educational Cooperation
On May 27, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc met with Jennifer Westacott, Chancellor of Western Sydney University, to discuss educational cooperation between Vietnam and Australia.
During the event, Ms. Jennifer Westacott announced that Western Sydney University began offering courses at the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City in 2008 and entered a strategic partnership in 2021. In June 2023, they signed an MoU to provide 60 scholarships for Vietnamese and regional students to study at their campuses in Vietnam and Australia.
The scholarship program includes 50 scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate studies in business and communication in Vietnam and 10 for postgraduate and doctoral studies in Australia. The initiative aims to offer Vietnamese students access to advanced academic values in an international environment, helping them develop essential skills for the global labor market.
She expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to benefit students and enhance educational and research quality. The collaboration also reinforces the strong diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Australia, which has thrived for over 50 years.
For his part, Mr. Phuc highlighted the Ministry of Education and Training’s commitment to supporting international academic exchange. He emphasized the importance of expanding cooperation in fields like artificial intelligence, science research, technology, and engineering, aligning with both governments’ developmental priorities.
