Vietnam Army Units Pay Tribute To Needy Social Beneficiaries
The Vietnam People’s Army Newspaper, in association with Hanoi Housing Development and Investment Joint Stock Company 5 and Quang Tri Command, started construction of 8 gratitude houses in Dakrong, Huong Hoa, Vinh Linh and Hai Lang districts, Quang Tri Province. The recipients are veterans, martyrs’ relatives and AO victims who are running short of accommodation. The houses, worth VND 60 million each, are planned to be handed over and put into operation at the end of this year. Up to July 16th, units of Engineer Corps paid visits, presented free check-ups, medicines and gifts worth over VND 230 million to needy people in localities. Besides, the unit also offered a VND 15 million account book to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Toan in Luong Tai Commune, Van Lam District, Hung Yen Province, who is a former engineer to defuse a magnetic bomb at the Long Dai Wharf during the national anti-American resistance war, and built new two houses worth VND 120 million for Ms. Le Thi Thu in Dong Ha City and Ms. Phan Thi Hai in Hai Lang District, Quang Tri Province. On the occasion of the 65th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day, Regiment 263, Division 367, presented 200 gifts, worth VND 47 million, which were collected by the unit’s cadres and troops, to needy local households. In addition, organizations in District 9, Ho Chi Minh City, gave free check-ups and medicines to 150 social beneficiaries in Long Binh Precinct, District 9. On July 14th, 50 troops in Company 18, Regiment 19, Division 968, offered incenses to martyrs, cleaned up and beautified martyrs’ graves at the Road 9 Cemetery to promote the tradition, “When drinking water, remember who dug the well”, of the Vietnamese people, as well as to commemorate those who had devoted their lives to national independence. The Hong Ha shipbuilder under the General Department of Defence Industry donated funds to build 7 new houses, worth VND420 million, for needy social beneficiaries. Besides, the Company also assisted localities, where the Company’s units are stationed, in repairing cemeteries and building martyrs’ statues, and presented gifts to war invalids and wounded soldiers in Quang Tri Province. Since early 2012, the Hong Ha donated more than VND 1 billion for social welfare. The Military Bank’s Thanh Hoa Branch inquired after and gave gifts for veterans in the Thanh Hoa Rehabilitation Centre and social beneficiaries in Ba Dinh District, Thanh Hoa City.
