Vietnam among Top 10 Most Physically Inactive Countries: Official

Vietnam ranks among the top ten countries with the highest rate of physical inactivity, posing a threat not only to individual health but also to the healthcare system, Deputy Minister of Health Prof. Dr. Tran Van Thuan has said.

The Vietnamese deputy health minister shared this information at the launch of the third "I’m Healthier and More Beautiful" contest on September 10.

Deputy Minister Thuan cited reports from the World Health Organization and the United Nations Population Fund as noting the growing concerns over sedentary lifestyles and rising obesity rates, which increase the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, cardiovascular conditions, and cancer.

The "I’m Healthier and More Beautiful" contest, organized by the local Suc Khoe & Doi Song (Health & Life) newspaper, aims to motivate people to stay fit and practice healthy eating habits. Each year, the contest attracts over 3,500 participants and reaches millions nationwide. This year’s theme, "Healthier, More Beautiful, Happier Together," spans three months and features three rounds to find those with the most impressive and inspiring transformations.
