Vietnam Affected by 636 Natural Disasters since Jan, Records 111 Dead/Missing
Vietnam has been impacted by 21 out of 22 types of natural disasters, resulting in 636 occurrences and 111 deaths or missing persons as of August 5, the highest toll over the last five years, according to the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
The northern region has been the hardest hit, with 77 fatalities and missing persons, nearly three times higher than the number from the same period in 2023.
The Committee forecasts that the La NiƱa phenomenon would bring more extreme weather, threatening lives, property, and economic stability.
The East Sea is predicted to see ten or 12 typhoons and tropical depressions from August to the end of the year, with at least half likely to make landfall, particularly affecting the Central region from September to November.
