Vietnam’s Losses by Natural Disasters Drop 84.3% y/y to $36.7M in Jan-Jul
Vietnam is estimated to have recorded an economic loss of nearly VND881.1 billion ($36.7 million) due to natural disasters in the first seven months of this year, down 84.3% y/y, according to the latest data from the General Statistics Office (GSO).
Natural disasters are estimated to have caused 51 deaths and injured 52 people, while damaging 46,200 hectares of paddy and veggies; 11,900 poultry and cattle; and more than 12,000 houses, the GSO said.
In January-July, Vietnam is likely to have logged 1,066 cases of fires and explosions, which claimed the lives of 60 people and injured 60 others, causing an economic loss of nearly VND108.8 billion, down 77.9% y/y.
Besides, relevant agencies have detected 11,070 environmental violations and handled 9,807 of them, with total fines of nearly VND176.8 billion, up 16.5% y/y. (GSO)
