Vietnam’s Education Sector Lacks over 118.2K Teachers in 2022-2023

Vietnam lacked more than 118,200 teachers at public educational institutions in the 2022-2023 academic year, up 10.6% y/y, data from the Department of Teachers and Education Administrators, under the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET), showed.

The sum included nearly 52,000 teachers for preschools/kindergartens; over 33,100 for primary schools; over 19,300 for secondary schools; and over 13,800 for high schools. Localities also faced difficulty in recruiting teachers for specific subjects, such as English, information technology, music, and arts.

In the 2022-2023 academic year, localities nationwide recruited 17,000 teachers, meeting 61.1% of the year’s target, the Department of Teachers and Education Administrators said.

The education sector needs to recruit over 81,500 teachers for public educational institutions in the 2023-2024 academic year, the department forecasts.  (Giao Duc Thoi Dai)
