Vice President Awards Scholarships to Disadvantaged Children
Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan presented 50 bicycles and 50 scholarships worth a total of VND100 million ($4,800) on September 16 to support disadvantaged children in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai with their studies. In addition, the Vice President donated funds for victims of the flash floods that hit Nam Luc commune in Bac Ha district, Lao Cai province. She also visited the Lao Cai No.1 High School, as well as a number of policy beneficiary families in Lao Cai city and Sa Pa district. On the same day at Can Tho University in southern Can Tho province, the Steering Committee for the Southwest organized a ceremony to present 3,500 ‘Joining Hands to Nurture Talent’ scholarships worth VND2 million ($96) each to poor students in 13 Mekong Delta provinces. The event was attended by former Party General Secretary Le Kha Phieu. The scholarships were donated by the Steering Committee for the Southwest, as well as cities, provinces, businesses, organizations and individuals in the region, aiming to encourage poor students to overcome their difficulties and work towards becoming high quality human resources to contribute to regional socio-economic development.
