USAID, UNDP Launch Proj in Vietnam to Tackle Climate-Related Health Threats
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) have launched the "One Health" project to enhance provincial-level capacities in addressing public health threats related to climate change, local media reported.
Through consultations with local stakeholders, including businesses and women's associations, the One Health project will address human health, animal health, and environmental health. Planned activities include upgrading primary healthcare facilities to provide services during extreme weather events and enhancing telehealth services.
USAID's Mission Director for Vietnam Aler Grubbs emphasized that USAID and Vietnam will leverage nearly 20 years of collaboration in the One Health project with a new focus on climate change. This is the first USAID-funded project that centers on the intersection of public health and climate change. It will be implemented in Can Tho City and An Giang Province.
In 2011, USAID supported the establishment of the Vietnam One Health University Network (VOHUN) to promote and develop One Health training in fields such as medicine, veterinary science, nursing, public health, and food technology at Vietnamese universities.
