U.S. Educator Urges Vietnamese Lecturers to Change English Teaching Method
Vietnamese lecturers should use more English in teaching the foreign language instead of using their mother tongue, said David Persey of National Geographic Learning, which is part of the U.S.-based Cengage Learning, a portfolio of quality materials for academic and adult education. Mr. Persey made the comment during a conference last week on English-languages courses using Vietnamese in the southern economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City. Other topics discussed at the two-day conference included teaching receptive and productive English skills, and application of new technology in English teaching of local and foreign lecturers. The conference was held by the Vietnam-based Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization's Regional Training Centre. It attracted more than 300 English teachers, researchers and scholars in Vietnam, the Philippines, Australia, Indonesia, UK, Thailand, Japan and China. (Vietnamnews.vn Aug 19)
