U.S. Charity Organization Helps Mitigate War Effects in Central Vietnam

The U.S.-based charity organization Humpty Dumpty Institute (HDI) and Vietnam’s central province of Quang Tri have signed an agreement to carry out a mushroom growing program worth $1.4 million in a bid to mitigate war effects left in the Vietnam War. The program “Mushrooms with a mission” is part of the “Restoring the environment and neutralizing the effects of the war in the locality” project, aiming to support local farmers in growing, processing and marketing high quality mushrooms in a sustainable way. About 1,000 local households who are victims of bombs and mines during the war will benefit from this five-year program. HDI is a U.S.-based nongovernmental organization that creates government and private partnership in humanitarian programs linking landmine removal with agricultural development and poverty reduction all over the world.
