U.S. Assists Vietnam Garment Makers in Social Responsibility Management
Vietnam’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the U.S.’s Fair Labor Association (FLA) April 11 signed a two-year agreement for a project to bolster the management of sustainable corporate social responsibility for local garment and footwear makers. The signatories were the VCCI Vice Chairman Doan Duy Khuong and the FLA’s Chief Executive Officer Auret Van Heerden. Funded by the U.S. government, through the FLA, the project will provide technical supports for 50 leather, footwear and garment enterprises in the six provinces and cities of Hanoi, Thai Binh, Hai Duong, southern provinces of Dong Nai, Long An and Binh Duong. The project is expected to help harmonize Vietnam’s economic growth with its social stability. This will be based on respecting the rights of workers and improving their working conditions as well as helping enhance sustainability in the global supply chain.
