UNICEF to Focus on Supporting Vietnam’s Vulnerable Children This Year
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and other UN agencies this year will bring their support closer to the most disadvantaged and vulnerable children in Vietnam, said UNICEF representative in Vietnam Youssouf Abdel-Jelil. It will be in line with the fund’s efforts to bring better services to vulnerable children within “the State of the World’s Children 2016: A fair chance for every child” launched in Vietnam. UNICEF has gear its support to the disadvantaged children due to rejection to give a fair chance for millions of children that may harm their future and the entire society in the future, Mr. Abdel-Jelil said at a launching ceremony in Hanoi on July 6. The support will focus on equality of life for every child, including saving them, bringing them to school, and reducing poverty in households where they are living, making it one of prerequisite conditions to fulfill the country’s Sustainable Development Goals. With support from foreign organizations, poverty rate in Vietnam fell from 58% in 1993 to 10% in 2014. The infant mortality rate also decreased from 36 to 10 deaths per 1,000 live births during 1990-2014. (Vietnamplus.vn July 6)
