UNESCO Vows to Support Vietnam to Promote Learning Society
UNESCO stands ready to continue supporting Vietnam in building a learning society, said Acting UNESCO Representative to Vietnam Michael Croft.
Speaking to the Vietnam News Agency on International Literacy Day (September 8), Mr. Michael Croft highly praised Vietnam’s efforts in universalizing education, eradicating illiteracy, and promoting lifelong learning.
However, the country still faces discrepancies in educational attainments between different groups in terms of ethnicity, disability, and living standards, he added.
The official said that UNESCO would continue to support Vietnam with policies and techniques to effectively develop directions and a system of lifelong learning, contributing to building more learning cities and a learning society.
At present, Vietnam has five localities as members of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, namely Cao Lanh and Sa Dec (in Dong Thap province), Hai Duong (in Hai Duong province), Ho Chi Minh City, and Vinh (in Nghe An province).
