UNCAC Self Assessment Process
The UN Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), which Viet Nam ratified in mid 2009 has become a key component in the efforts to tackle corruption in the country. As a member of this Convention, Viet Nam has committed to constantly report to the Conference of States Parties on implementation efforts. In that regards, Viet Nam was selected in the list of countries to be reviewed under the UNCAC Review Mechanism in 2012 and the Government has since started to prepare the UNCAC Self-Assessment process in 2011.
The objective of the UNCAC Self Assessment is to enable countries to track how they are progressing in the fight against corruption. More specifically, the UNCAC Self-Assessment aims to: (i) encourage a participatory and nationally-driven process towards anti-corruption reform, by assessing the capacities of national anti-corruption systems, laws and institutions (de jure and de facto), and identifying possible reforms to address capacity gaps; and (ii) to support and contribute to the UNCAC Review Mechanism.
The UNCAC Review Mechanism encourages State parties to consult broadly with relevant stakeholders including non-state actors (social organizations, business and academia) when preparing their responses to the Self-Assessment Checklist.
In that context, UNDP is pleased to facilitate a first initial discussion to introduce UNCAC and the Self-Assessment process and discuss about possible ways to enhance civil society participation and contribution in Viet Nam. Therefore, UNDP would like to invite your organization to a presentation and discussion on the UNCAC and the self assessment process, which will be held on Monday 23 May 2011 from 2:00 pm to 4:45 pm at the Rose Room in UNDP Office. The agenda, which you will find below, also includes a presentation by Towards Transparency on their experience and their plans to support the UNCAC review process.
