U.K. to Assist Vietnam in Tertiary Education Development
Vietnam and the U.K. signed an agreement on developing tertiary education in Hanoi on Nov 4, as part of their efforts to boost the bilateral ties in the field. Signatories were the British Ambassador to Vietnam, Anthony Stokes, and the Director of the British University Vietnam (BUV), Graeme Davies. Under the agreement, Ambassador Stokes, as representative of the U.K. government, will become member of BUV executive board and will directly manage its operations. The U.K. government will also create favorable conditions for Vietnamese students learning in the U.K. by offering preferential tuitions. The signing demonstrates close bilateral relations since the two countries established the strategic partnership last year, especially in education, Ambassador Stokes said. As the first U.K. university to be licensed in Vietnam, BUV provides courses in the fields of banking and finance, international business management and marketing management. The university began recruiting students in Hanoi in October, 2010. It will officially open its main office in the northern province of Hung Yen province in 2014. (Thanh Nien – Young People Nov 7 p2)
