Three Mekong Delta to Carry out $2.8M EU-funded Sustainable Shrimp Project

Three Mekong Delta provinces of Soc Trang, Bac Lieu and Ca Mau, the biggest shrimp raising areas in Vietnam, will carry out a VND62.5 billion ($2.78 million) sustainable shrimp project funded by the EU. The project, to be implemented in the 2016-2020 period, aims to help local shrimp farmers and companies to develop cultivation models free of diseases by improving aquatic environment and shrimp processing. Shrimp farmers and processors will be provided capital and sustainable cultivation techniques and assistance in stock selling. The 28-member bloc is among leading importers of Vietnam-sourced shrimp. The project will help the country to ship safe shrimp product to the choosy market. (Nong Nghiep Viet Nam – Vietnam Agriculture Aug 19)
