Tam Nong Support Project for Poor Provinces Approved
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the content of the agreement sponsoring agriculture, farmers and rural areas (known as Tam Nong) support project in three provinces of Gia Lai, Ninh Thuan and Tuyen Quang. The Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy will officially sign the agreement with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Earlier, under the PM’s approval, from December 8 to 10, 2010, a Vietnamese delegation negotiated with IFAD on agriculture, farmers and rural areas assistance in Gia Lai, Ninh Thuan and Tuyen Quang. On December 9, 2010, the project was officially signed with IFAD. During the 2011-2015 period, the project will be implemented in 64 communes in five districts of Tuyen Quang. The project’s overarching goal is to raise the quality of life for rural people, especially those living in the most disadvantaged areas. Total capital for the project is VND600 billion, equivalent to $32 million; including more than $24 million of IFAD and the remainder from the Government’s corresponding capital and people’s contributions.
