Student E-Cigarette Use in Vietnam More Than Doubles in Two Years
The rate of e-cigarette use among students in Vietnam increased from 3.5% in 2022 to 8% in 2023, according to the Department of Medical Services Administration, under the Ministry of Health.
This information was shared during a press conference organized by the Health Ministry in the northern province of Vinh Phuc last week on strengthening the implementation of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) and Article 5.3 of the FCTC.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Director of the Health Ministry’s Legal Department Dinh Thi Thu Thuy stated that the ministry is currently proposing amendments to the Special Consumption Tax Law.
Additionally, it has recommended that the government submit a resolution to the National Assembly to ban the production, trade, and import of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products. As many as 13 out of 15 ministries and agencies have expressed support for the proposal.
