STF Grants Scholarships to Hoi An’s Poor Students
Representatives from the Saigon Times Foundation (STF) under the Saigon Times Group and professor Tran Van Tho on Monday granted 35 scholarships worth VND1 million each to poor hard-working students of Tran Quy Cap Highschool in Hoi An City of Quang Nam Province. The scholarships were raised from selling the book Vietnam tu 2011, vuot len su nghiet nga cua thoi gian (Vietnam from 2011, to overcome the harsh time) by author Tran Van Tho. Trung Nguyen Corp. donated the book’s printing fee. Professor Tho, an alumnus of Tran Quy Cap, handed over the gifts and shared knowledge with the students. Vo Thi Thao Ngan, a student of class 12C5 who received a full scholarship, said: “To a poor student like me, studying is my future and I aspire to better myself. Receiving a STF scholarship is such a great spiritual and material encouragement to strive for mastery.” According to teacher Vo Van Cu, the school’s headmaster, the last school-year saw a high number of students passing the university entrance examination compared to other schools in the locality.
